About Us
Why choose the MKA...

Every day karate classes across the United States rigorously pursue the legendary benefits associated with the martial arts.  Each school, however is different, and has its own way of teaching the lessons of its particular style. So why choose the Montville Karate Academy? Montville Karate Academy teaches like no one else does, so our students achieve what no others can!

In every learning environment there are 3 main variables: the student, the teacher, the lesson. MKA's stringent qualifications of these variables provides a greater level of success.

• 1st – Who We Teach
(the students of MKA)

The Montville Karate Academy does not have an open door policy when it comes to enrollment. Our trial classes help us to determine if candidates are ready to become students. We want to be sure that you, and the people who work out with you, are able to pay attention, to learn the lessons provided, to maintain safety standards, and to share in mutual pursuit of self defense and self improvement.

• 2nd – How We Teach (MKA’s teaching staff)

For 16 years, the Academy has provided a structured and safety-oriented environment in which to study age-old warrior disciplines. We are passionate about teaching the benefits of the martial arts. Our difference is due the planning and design of our program. This can be witnessed in the exacting preparation of our instructors, the thorough and personal attention we provide to our students, and the ongoing refinement of our classes.

Head instructor/director John Kiskiel is a seventh degree black belt (nanadan), with over 27 years experience. He continues to study and train throughout the United States, Japan and Okinawa.

Sensei Kiskiel's teacher, A.J. Advincula, Sensei is a world class teacher of the martial arts and a formost authority on Isshinynru, Hindiandi, and Escrima. To learn more about Sensei A.J. Advincula click here.

All of our teaching staff are promoted from within the Academy. They each have a minimum of five years student training, and undergo an additional two-year apprenticeship, in order to test and improve their teaching skills.

These and other efforts are taken to guarantee a superior learning experience for our students.

• 3rd –  What We Teach
(MKA’s curriculum)

At the Montville Karate Academy, we primarily teach karate, judo and kobujuitsu (weapons) in a traditional manner, promoting courtesy and respect.  Inherent in these traditional art forms are the essential principles and techniques renowned for producing self improvement and personal transformation.

Although we don’t cater to current fads or specialize in marketing trends, we do teach a well-rounded curriculum with a focus on healthful exercises, self defense applications, martial philosophy/strategies, sport competition and demonstration.

As part of our program, MKA proudly offers a wide range of opportunities for our students. These include classes, exhibitions, self defense courses, summer camps, tournaments, seminars and other special events.

Mastery of karate is an endeavor requiring effort and dedication. Your choice to become a student at one school rather than another should be undertaken in a serious and considerate manner.
